Official TOOL Tablature & Sheet Music »

Song: Pu*** (live)
Album: Salival
Band: Tool
Date: Aug 5th, 2002

By: Kyle Jasinski (myownlabmonkey@yahoo.com)

Tuning is drop D, as always.

THIS SONG WILL BE HARD TO MASTER, YOU MUST LISTEN AND NOTICE WHEN SOME NOTES GET HELD OUT ETC.

I've known how to play this (and Third Eye) almost completely for a while now. Tired of half-way done tabs so going to make it as detailed and correct as possible. I will try and point all when he adds delay, changes delay, uses wah, and such. Some parts will be unexplainable, you will have to figure it out.

Pedals:

- Boss Digital Delay DD-5 (for the prolonged "repeating" effect)
- Boss Metal Zone (or tube distortion)
- Cry Baby Wah (though it does not have to be used)

Key:

pm palm mute
^ bend note
* artificial harmonic
(nh) natural harmonic (touch finger to string without applying pressure above depicted fret)
h Hammer On
p Pull Off
~ Hold out note (although you should hold just about all notes, this is reminding you)
() "ghost note" (unless otherwise noted). I use this to depict a note that you might not have heard or may be hard to hear. A very subtle note.

::TO SET YOUR DELAY CORRECTLY FOR ANY TOOL SONG::
(With a proper delay setting your song can sound many times better)

Play the song up to a point where you can hear the delay effect very well, in "Pu*** (live)'s" case a good point is 8:21, where the drums have finished and it is playing clean. Adam tends to set the delay to the beats in the song, which seems right anwyays.

Also, many parts of this song can be played on several different areas of the guitar. I only show you where I play them, if you find you like it played somewhere else on the guitar, then use that.

For the intro when Maynard is talking to the crowd, you would use the number "5" function on the DD-5 to add a repeating effect on the open d string, while playing a little solo over it. If you dont have the pedal, just play the open d string repeatedly until the intro-solo. He reduces the volume for the delay a few time in the beginning.

And now on to the tab...

::TIMING MAY BE OFF BECAUSE I'M USING WINAMP FOR TIMES AND IT VARIES::

0:28 Delay "repeat" comes in permanently (no echo delay) (no volume adjustments)

During the silence here, reach down and set your DD-5 (or other) delay pedal to
normal delay functions (with it matching adam's delay hopefully). Keep the pedal off,
there is no delay in the verse.

Chorus 2
