Artist : Smashing Pumpkins
Release: Mashed Potatoes Box Set/Live At Cabaret Metro 10-5-88
Author : Iain Strong
Tuning : Standard
This is an excellent, anthemic, song, leaked from the
extremely rare Mashed Potatoes box sets which Billy gave to friends. It
is thought to be one of the earliest Pumpkins demos, dating back to
1988. A live version of this song was also released on a CD given
exclusively to anyone lucky enough to attend the final show at the
Metro on 12/2/2000.
Intro/Chorus:
(Open B in brackets because I think it makes more sense rhythmically)
x----------------------------0-------x
x----------0--------------(0)--0-----x
x------5-----5---5-----5---------5---x
x----5---5-----5-----5---5-----------x
x--3---------------0-----------------x
x------------------------------------x
Verse:
(Slightly Palm Muted W/Distortion; G5 in brackets only played first time)
x---------------------------------------x
x---------------------------------------x
x---------------------------------------x
x--(5)\2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2/5-5-5-5/7-7-7-7--x
x--(5)\2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2/5-5-5-5/7-7-7-7--x
x--(3)\0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0/3-3-3-3/5-5-5-5--x
(Slide signs are probably the wrong way round because I'm left-handed)
Repeat both parts as is necessary. These are basically the two formats
which the song follows for the first two minutes or so.
This part appears for a few bars after the second verse, and at the very
end:
x-------------------------------x
x-------------------------------x
x--5-5-5-5----------------------x
x--5-5-5-5-5-5-5/7-7-7\5-5-5-5--x
x--3-3-3-3-5-5-5/7-7-7\5-5-5-5--x
x----------3-3-3/5-5-5\3-3-3-3--x

x--11~12~11h12h11h12h11h12-9~11-12-14---------------------------x
x---------------------------------------------------------------x

Second Part (Over Chorus; not actually the way they play it but it sounds
good)
