>From Fred Lidskog <swede@email.unc.edu)

The Masterplan, written by Noel Gallagher, performed by Oasis
This is another one of my favorites by Oasis, truly an epic song and
another where our lads are accompanied by a string and horn section.
There's alot of weird chords used in this song, and the chords are sort
of hard to hear (especially in the intro) because of the string
section, so keep an open mind when you see this transcription on
paper, because if you play the song, you'll hear these chords are pretty
much the right ones. Written next to some of the chords I use for this
song are the chords listed in the official Oasis B-sides guitar book
(thanks to Paul Das <> for providing these) in case you want to know what
that book has listed. Unfortunately, I don't think the transcription found
in this book is a very accurate one (as is the case with many
transcriptions in the "official" Oasis tab books) so you can try out these
chords if you wish, but you'll most likely agree with me that in most
cases the "official" book is incorrect.

Chords used:

Am (x02210)
A7sus4 (x02030) or try (x05430) [official book: G/A (x05433)]
Fmaj7/A (x03210) [official book: F/A (x03211)]
C/B (x2x010) [official book: G/B (x20003)]
C (x32010)
D (xx0232)
E (022100)
E7 (020100)
F (x33211)
G (3x0033)

Intro:
-----

Here's my attempt at the intro. It may not be exactly how Noel's playing
it, but it sounds almost exactly the same. For a couple of other attempts
at how to play the intro, see the bottom of this transcription...

Chords used in intro:

Am (x02210)
Am/G# (x02110) [official book: Am(maj7/G#) (4x2210)]
Am7 (x02010) [official book: Am7/G (3x2210)]
Am/F# (x04210) [official book: Am6/F# (2x2210)]
Fmaj7/A (x03210) [official book: Fmaj7 (1x2210)]
Am/D (x00210) [official book: D (xx0232)]
E7 (020100)

So here it goes:

Am Am/G# Am7 Am/F# Fmaj7/A Am/D Am E7 (repeat)

While the book has the intro like this:

Am Am(maj7/G#) Am7/G Am6/F# Fmaj7 D G Am E7

Verse 1

And then

CHORUS

After chorus the chords: C B/C Am G are repeated for a while.

Here is my interpretation of Masterplan from the "there and then" video.
I've tried to get the intro chords for this off the video, but there are
just not enough guitar shots, so I'll just give ya what I got.

Chords:
Am (xx2210)
X (xx4030) I have no idea what this chord is, so it's X for now
Am7 (xx2010)
E (022100)
C (x32010)
G (320001)
F (x33211)
(slide between the chords, don't leave pauses and it sounds much better)

Am X
Take the time to make some sense, of what you wanna say....

Am7 X Am E
And cast your words away upon the waves......

Am X
Sail them home with acquiesce on a ship of hope today....

Am7 X E Am7
And as they land upon the shore, tell them not to fear no more....

E G E
So say it loud and sing it proud todayyyy!!!

Chorus:
========

C G
Dance if ya wanna dance, please brother take a chance...

Am G
You know they're gonna go, which way they wanna go.

F G C Am
All we know is that we don't know....

C G
Just how it's gonna be, please brother let it be

Am G
Life on the other hand, won't make them understand,

C G Am
We're all part of the Masterplan.....

The song continues on following the same notation until the end when the
last part goes:

C G C G C G
We're all part of the masterplan

in the 4th and 5th fret), lemme know.** Mail me at: chiller@dmv.com

I was messing about on the guitar the other day and i think i've got
Masterplan down almost exactly. Have a go yourselves and see wot you think.
Here are the "weird" chords used (in the form of eBGDAE):

Am/sus2 (005770)
G#maj7 (045660)
Gmaj7 (034550)
F#maj7 (023440)
Fmaj7 (012330)
Em7/sus2(000000)

The intro basically starts at the Am/sus2 and descends:
G#maj7 Gmaj7 F#maj7 Em7/sus2 Am E

Am Gmaj7
Take the time...say

Fmaj7 Gmaj7 Am E
Cast your words away....waves

(same again till..)

Fmaj7 Gmaj7 D F
As they land upon...tell...to fear no more

G E
Say it...today

Then the chorus goes as what is generally agreed to be right, i.e
C G
Am G
Fmaj7 G etc....

Hope this helps!

This is another one of my favorites by Oasis, truly an epic song and

There's alot of weird chords used in this song, and the chords and

Subject: Masterplan

Here is my attempt at tabbing Masterplan, I think it is relatively close. I
don't know the names of several of the chords but from watching MTV Unplugged
I can tell you they are very close.
Here is the intro:
The chords are basically moveable E chords for the entire intro:
the number before each "E" will indicate which fret to play the E on.
Intro: Am, 5E, 4E, 3E, 2E, 4E, Am, E
Seems easy huh? well I'm pretty sure that it is something very close to that
if not exactly.
Verse:
Am 4E
Take the time to make some sense of what you want to say
2E 4E Am E
Cast your words away upon the waves.
Am 4E
Sail them with acquiesce on a ship of hope today.
2E 4E D* F
And as they land upon the shore, tell them not to fear no more.
G E
Say it loud and sing it proud today!
C G
Dance if you want to dance, please brother take a chance.
Am G F
You know they're gonna go which way they wanna go.
G C G C
All we know is that we don't know, how it's gonna be
G Am G
F
Please brother let it be, life on the other hand won't make you understand.
G Am
We're all part of a masterplan.
then this progression: 4E, 2E, 4E, D*, F
G E
Say it loud and sing it proud today!

Next verse is the same as before.

After Noel stops singing, the progression is C, G, Am, G (he is actually using
falsetto here on Unplugged). Break down for outro is: F, G, E(After he stops
falsetto). The outro is alot like the intro, so listen to it and figure it out
for yourself.
That's all folks.
Thanks.
