*This is all my own work and I've not gotten it from anyone else*
Artist: Van Morrison
Song: Astral Weeks
Album: Astral Weeks (1968)
Writer: Van Morrison
Tabbed by a little soul
I will be submitting the chords for all of this
wonderful album, except for 'Beside You' which is a
little tricky to write out because of its rhythm (or
lack thereof) and 'The Way Young Lovers Do', which is
already here. Anyway, as for this song...A lovely way
to start the album. A simple, bluesy guitar figure
from Jay Berliner is the centre of it, and coupled
with Van's Yeats-inspired mystical asides and simple
2-chord charge (reminiscent of the Velvet
Underground's Heroin) it forms the bulk of this song.
Then it slips in for its brief choruses to a
progression most similar to the Carole King song,
'Locomotion'. Again, it's not tough to work this one
out, but I will anyway for those unfamiliar with it.
Tuning: Capo on 2*
Time: 4/4
Chords: (Relative to the capo)
G - 320003
C - X32010
Em - 022000
*I am fairly certain about the capo position mainly
because of Berliner's riffs, which have the sonics
about them of a G country/blues scale.
Okay, let's start!
For Jay Berliner's playing, start off on the D string
and do some hammer-ons in the first position whilst
moving quickly to the higher strings. Straightforward
stuff, and he plays in this style for the duration.
Van plays this:
Verse:
G (4 bars)
C (4 bars)
repeated...
Chorus: ('would you find me...', with strings)
G (4 bars)
Em (4 bars)
(x4)
And that's all! Send me an email at
pulpalittlesoul@yahoo.com if you'd like more information.
