Alanis Morrisette, Hands Clean
Tabbing by: Dannie Jensen, Noxin@dr.com
Ok, I heard this little beauty on ZTV today and I had to rush home and tab it,
definantly one of the best numbers from Alanis. My deepest respect and love to
Alanis for touching me with her music, you are an inspiration.
Here's my stab at it:
Chords used:
C1 G1 D C2 G2 Cm E
E|--0-------3-------5-------3-------3-------8-------7-------------------
B|--3-------3-------7-------5-------3-------8-------9-------------------
G|--0-------0-------7-------5-------4-------8-------9-------------------
D|--2-------0-------7-------5-------5-------10------9-------------------
A|--3-------2-------5-------3-------5-------10------7-------------------
E|--x-------3-------5-------3-------3-------8-------7-------------------
Riff 1, intro and verse:
C G
E|-----------0--------------3-------------r------------------------------
B|-------3-----3--------3-----3-----------e------------------------------
G|-----0---0----------0---0---------------p------------------------------
D|----------------------------------------e------------------------------
A|---3--------------2---------------------a------------------------------
E|----------------------------------------t------------------------------
Easy enough (close enough), add a little heart here and there.
Pre-chorus:
I sorta fool around on the strings to get that 'here-we-go-into-the-chorus'
effect, but basically it's the same chords as the chorus. There's some
continuous playing on the lower strings, but I couldn't figure that one out.
Chorus:
Strummed very quickly. Beat that bass, especially on an accustic. There's
some kinda fingerplaying going as well, but I really can't be bothered to
tab that. I'm pretty sure I nailed this one, it sounds right to me:
C D Em C#m
E|-----3----------5----------7----------8---------r----------------------
B|-----5----------7----------7----------8---------e----------------------
G|-----5----------7----------7----------8---------p----------------------
D|-----5----------7----------9----------10--------e----------------------
A|-----3----------5----------9----------10--------a----------------------
E|-----3----------5----------7----------8---------t----------------------
NOTE: I tend to start in the C and stay in the C#m, makes it easier to nail
the E perfectly
Bridge:
From the ending C#m go straight into E
E C G D
E|-----7---------3---------3---------5------r-------------------
B|-----9---------5---------3---------7------e-------------------
G|-----9---------5---------4---------7------p-------------------
D|-----9---------5---------5---------7------e-------------------
A|-----7---------3---------5---------5------a-------------------
E|-----7---------3---------3---------5------t-------------------
NOTE: Getting back into the verse is really tricky, practice
hammering the A-string so you have time to get lower ones in.
Small slides are always cool :)
End on 1-4 hard C#m-downstrokes or a little fingerplaying or just fade it out.
Not worthy of Alanis, but if you put a little heart in it, I'm sure you can make it
sound perfect. Please, please, please give me some kind of feedback on Noxin@dr.com.
