How to read tab
by Kenneth Cunningham
Right this is how you do it:
E
B
G
D
A
E

As you may have guessed these letters represent the strings as the
letter given is the note used.

E|------------
B|------------
G|------------
D|------------
A|------------
E|------------

These things mean that you leave the strings alone and dont play
them at all.

E|-1-
B|---
G|---
D|---
A|---
E|---

The "1" on the high E means to pluck the high e string with your
finger on the first fret of the string. If it was a 2, then you would
have your finger on the 2nd fret and so on. If it is a 0 it means to
play the open string. When it is like this:

E|-2-
B|-3-
G|-2-
D|-0-
A|---
E|---

it means to strum the 4 strings all at once. Above is the chord D.
when the letters are different to the standard tuning (EBGDAE) then
it means to tune up or down to get the right note, but it will always
mean the same string even if it is a different note.

Its really quite simple.
