This song is a STAPLE of ACE Frehley's tenure with KISS and with his own
solo career. Shock Me showcases ACE's trademark playing style: Wild Vibrato,
bent and released notes in succession, Pull-off's, Hammer-on's & Trills.
Notice how well ACE follows the chord tones, this makes each of his phrases
flow with the rhythm guitar. Nothing spectacular technically, BUT the feel
and phrasing makes this solo work. I have transcribed it as more of a feel
solo and kept all the MAJOR licks that make this solo unique. I have not
attempted to do a 100% NOTE-FOR-NOTE of this solo since ACE would never play
it 100% every night either. There is PLENTY of room for interpretation
betweeen the signature riffs of this solo, so experiment and make it your
own. Since seeing ACE play at Madison Square Garden on 7/25/96, I noticed he
takes liberty within his solo's signature parts. Which is how I play it,
I think you'll come away learning more if you do this also. Learning it this
solo NOT-FOR-NOTE would take away the feel of the solo, so just jam out
within the parts that make this solo great. Enjoy!
