This is what I have figured out from scratch. I've seen some TAB that's in
Drop D tuning with a capo on the fourth, and some TAB in standard tuning.
I think this is a little easier, as in less awkward on the fingers to play.
It sounds great when playing by yourself, and I think this is the tuning
Lindsey Buckingham actually uses for this song, however there is a note
from Mike Wallbridge at the end of the file saying otherwise.
Enjoy. Comments and suggestion welcome.
Notes:
======
Capo:
On the 6th fret if you want to play in the same key as on the Rumours album.
Timing:
I use 4/4.
Tuning:
I use "almost" Open C tuning, from low to high, CGDGBe.
That is, drop the 5th string (A) to G, and drop the 6th string (E) to C.
I tried open C (CGCGCe), but it made the song a little more difficult.
Legend:
h = Hammer on
/ = Slide
. = Beat
- = Half beat
Notes on playing
================
The beat is played by the thumb. Lindsey Buckingham's style of playing
on this particular song (and many others) is to use the thumb to pick
the bass notes (very regularly), while his other fingers pick the high
notes.
I've made the timing of the notes as accurate as I could.
Other songs that use this same sort of picking pattern are:
Landslide - by Stevie Nicks (from Rumours, 1977, and The Dance, 1997)
The Chain - by Fleetwood Mac (from Rumours, 1977, and The Dance, 1997)
Big Love - by Lindsey Buckingham (from The Dance, 1997)

*** A Note from Mike Wallbridge (Feedback) ***
Hi,
I came across your version of Never Going Back Again in C Wahine tuning
(CGDGBE) and thought you'd be interested in some info. According to an
interview with Lindsey, he double-tracked the song on Rumours playing
it in Dropped-D tuning, which as you say is not quite so easy. In the
same interview he supplied the tab for the song and I transposed it
exactly into C Wahine tuning to see how it came out. A couple of days
later I found the enclosed site with exactly the same tuning and the
same notes that I had worked out. It is a fuller version that you have
at present and, I think, identical to what Lindsey played if in a
different tuning. Hope you enjoy it if you are still at this address.
If you ever manage to work out the tab for the very much slower and
different live version of the song I would appreciate you letting me know.
Cheers
Mike Wallbridge
