Warning Sign
by Coldplay
from the album "A Rush of Blood to the Head"
transcribed by Tom Whelan
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This song is pretty simple. Here is my version as close as I can get it
to the recording. Unless I've given the chords, everything else is standard
textbook fingerings.
Intro:
Hold D and then go into
G D A E
which is the rest of the intro and the verse as well.
You repeat the above chords for the entire verse, and at the end
hold the E for a few extra measures.
Chorus:
This is how it goes.
D/G F#m A G#m7
The first chord is my own way to play it. Sometimes a D sounds better and
then five minutes later G sounds right to me. So I said to hell with them both
and just I fudge this chord, but with the vocals over it blends in nicely
and doesn't sound like you can't make up your mind. Here is the D/G, along with
the F#m and the G#m7 for old times' sake.
D/G F#m G#m7
e--o----2----4
b--3----2----4
g--2----2----4
d--o----4----4
a--o----4----6
e--3----2----4
After this, you repeat the verse and chorus structures again, hold on the the
G#m7, which leads us to the...
Outro:
Which is built like this:
A G/A G F#m
For the G/A chord, I yet again fudge it because the orignal song is played on piano
and sometimes stringent accuracy is not as important as ease, so I play the second
chord like this:
e--x--
b--2--
g--2--
d--2--
a--o--
e--3--
This progession goes all the way to the end of the tune, which ends on E from the F#m
with the last repetition of lyrics.
Maybe you want to take the time to decipher the few chords I fudge from the piano
part of the original song, but this version will allow you to play this song and not
worry too much about it because it's pretty close. I tried to transcribe it so
the simplicity isn't confounded.
Have fun, and may this tab help you make some girl cry at an open mic somewhere.
