The essence of "I Walk the Line" is in the key changes. The first verse is in
F, the second is in Bb, the third is Eb, then it modulates back down to Bb, and
finally back down to F. The first verse is sung quite high, because the last
verse, which is the same otherwise, is sung down an octave, showcasing that
incredible low-low-C at the end of the phrase "because you're mine". If you
can sing it like Johnny, you'll knock 'em dead.

I use lower case letters for bass notes, to distinguish them from real chords.
Between the verses, the guitar plays a three-note bass run to move to the new
key. The guitar then vamps on the root chord of the new key, while Johnny
gets his bearings by humming the new tonic note, and then starts the verse.
